Module: interior simulation

Turn it on with the Interior simulation checkbox on the Setup tab.

The module puts companies inside the structure while command works blind: no view of any interior they are not standing in themselves. Command works from radio traffic, CAN reports, and reported heat, which is the information actually available on the street.

Enabling it and choosing an interior layout#

Ticking the box reveals the Interior layout dropdown. The dropdown is preset from the scenario's category (Setup tab); choosing a layout stamps a set of interior views into the scenario:

Interior layout Views stamped
Single-family residential Living area, Kitchen, Bedroom hallway
Multi-story residential First floor, Second floor landing, Basement
Big box commercial Sales floor, Rear storage
Strip mall occupancy Occupancy interior, Rear corridor
Other / custom None. You add your own.

Changing the structure type later replaces the stamped views with the new set. Interior views you added yourself are left alone.

Deciding which room to send a company into is a real deployment decision, which is why each type provides more than one.

Building the interior conditions#

The stamped views arrive as clean rooms. Build the fire in them:

  1. Open an interior view from the Views tab.
  2. Place Fire at the seat of the fire.
  3. Place Smoke and set Density and Darkness. Inside, smoke banks down from the ceiling instead of rising, so density controls how far the layer drops and how much visibility a crew loses. High density with high darkness approaches blackout.
  4. Place Victim elements for search objectives, and Hazard for anything that should be found and reported.

Apparatus is not available on interior views.

An interior view with nothing placed on it shows a clean room, which crews will correctly report as no fire found. Build every interior view you keep.

Custom interiors#

Choose Other / custom as the structure type, or keep it alongside a stamped set, and build your own:

  1. Add a view with Upload and a photograph of the space.
  2. Name it with Custom….
  3. Mark it with the house button in the view row.

Custom interior views behave exactly like stamped ones.

What happens in a drill#

Access is controlled, and the rules are worth knowing when you build:

  • A company can enter an interior view only when the drill has started, their unit has arrived, and their unit's current assignment on the command board is marked as an interior duty (Fire Attack and Search & Rescue are interior duties by default; the list is editable in Department settings).
  • The incident commander follows the same rule: with an interior-flagged unit that has arrived, the IC may make entry, as a first-due officer would. While inside, command still learns nothing about other rooms except by radio.
  • Members with no unit assigned do not enter.
  • Instructors move freely and see everything.
  • Reassigning a company to an exterior duty removes their access immediately, and anyone inside is walked back out to an exterior view.

Companies inside report with the CAN report control: Conditions, Actions, Needs, plus a declared heat level of Low, Moderate, High, or Untenable. Heat is felt, not seen, so the crew inside declares it. The most recent reported heat for a room shows as a badge on that room's tab for everyone.

Interaction with apparatus placement#

Both modules can be on at once. A crew arriving at a scenario with both enabled places their apparatus first, then walks the sides or enters the structure if their assignment allows it.

Without an active subscription#

A scenario with this module enabled still loads with the module off, and the feed records that it was disabled. Interior views remain in the scenario and are simply unreachable until Pro is restored.
