Module: apparatus placement

Turn it on with the Apparatus placement checkbox on the Setup tab.

The module exercises one thing: whether an arriving company sets up in the right place. Each crew parks their own rig on the aerial as they arrive, and where they park decides which side of the building they walk out onto.

Requirements#

The scenario needs an aerial view with an image, marked as aerial (the satellite button), and it has to be calibrated: the module is about position relative to the building and its sides. Open the aerial view and press Set sides. See Aerial calibration and the sides.

Without calibration there are no wedges, so there is no side to arrive a crew on and they stay where they are.

If the module is on and no aerial exists, the builder shows a warning and the module stays inactive during a drill.

Setup#

Do not place the apparatus yourself. With the module on, the scenario ships with no rigs on the aerial: the crews put them there. Ticking the box is the whole build step.

Give the sides their own views (Side A, Side B, and so on) so there is somewhere for each crew to arrive. A crew who parks on Charlie in a scenario with no Side C view simply stays on the aerial.

With the module off#

The opposite: you place the apparatus in the builder, on the aerial, and crews never think about it.

Open the aerial view, place an apparatus, and pick its Responding unit in the inspector. That is what tells the drill whose rig it is, so that crew arrives on the side it is parked on. A rig with no unit picked is scenery: it shows on the aerial and nobody arrives on it.

Crews can still open the aerial during the drill to see where the assignment ended up. They just do not position anything.

Building scenarios for it#

• Set the aerial zoom so the street, the driveway and the hydrant side are all visible. Positioning is about access and water supply, and a photo cropped tight to the roof does not let a crew make that decision.
• Give units arrival windows that spread out. Positioning is easy when everyone arrives at once and hard when the third unit has to work around the first two.
• Rigs nobody is assigned to are positioned by the instructor during the drill, so a scenario can include apparatus with no crew in it.

Without an active subscription#

If a department's subscription lapses, a scenario with this module enabled still loads in a drill with the module turned off, and the feed records that it was disabled. Nothing is deleted from the scenario; re-enabling Pro restores it.
